Foss History

Hi now it's time for me to give you a little bit of history. The first 30 years
of my life I grew up in Rogers Park area of Chicago.
I played a little bit of pool at that time. When I started working at a pool
room called Crystal Cue, is when my interest in pool went into action. I had
noticed the level of pool was HIGH. There was a exhibition Grand opening in the
early 60's in which Willie Mosconni opened for the pool room. This pool room
had 20 gold crowns and 2 old billiard tables and 1 ten foot snooker table. This was
a class act place at the time.
Playing pool in the Chicago and the Cicero area was one of the toughest to
play, if not the toughest? Crystal Cue had attracted many greats like Artie
Borgendroph, Cicero Murphy, Pool Room Freddie, Tom Spencer, Ray Maples,
and most of all THE BUGS (the best bank pool player that ever had walked this
earth!)
Some of these people I believe are now playing at Chris Billiards (where
they filmed the movie Color of Money 4637 Milwaukee Ave. Chicago)
I moved here to the U.P. in the 1981 with my wife Linda, who is originally
from area to raise my family. I am now active in pool leagues and playing in pool
tournaments and giving pool lessons here and there in my spare time.
My father John Foss came to the United States from Oslo, Norway and was a
painting contractor for many years. I also had a Uncle Olaf who was a furniture
maker. My mother Charlotte was from Hamberg, Germany.
